Distributed model predictive control of all‐dc offshore wind farm for short‐term frequency support

From technical and economical viewpoints, an all-dc offshore wind farm (OWF) with a high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) connection, which is also known as HVDC-connected OWF, the future trend for energy applications. However, due to decoupling effect of power converters, OWF cannot directly provide short-term frequency support onshore ac gird, that is, primary response inertia support. To address this issue, paper presents distributed model predictive control (DMPC) scheme OWF. By suppressing voltage deviation rate change dc collection network, indirectly decreases (RoCoF) grid. Meanwhile, ensures stability turbines in during events. Considering large number corresponding optimization problem solved way using alternating direction method multipliers (ADMM), thus reducing computational burden. Simulations including performance comparison droop validate effectiveness scheme.
